At the Siggiewi Primary School on Malta, children from kindergarten and primary school kicked-off the app-pilot October 2023. But already from the beginning of 2023 the school was involved, since they (teachers, students and caregivers) gave insight into their needs, wishes and concerns regarding the app functionalities, but also on children's participation in traffic, safe schoolzones and the current walking infrastruct!ure. In co-creation we then established the functionalities of the app! The local police, Transport Malta and Project Eagle Foundation (PAF) also made a substantial effort in making it a community driven app by and for the society.

It became clear that there is a high need for an app that would reduce the cars not only at schoolzones, but also on the roads towards the schools, since it makes it a real challenge for the children and caregivers to get around safely. Having a walking buddy assured that the children are guided (however as you can see from the picture > the children were also carefully looking after each other!)

The results

Conclusions based on a survey amongst the users of the sCOOL2walk pilot in Malta 40% said that the usage of the pilot gave them more enjoyment in walking and 50% was more aware of the safety. 87.5% mentioned a stronger communal relationship and 25% a stronger sense of feeling secure. With 60% of the people having a strong intention to continue with the sCOOL2walk platform and a reduction of 100% in the care usage.

During the period of the 9th of October till the 21st of November the sCOOL2walk pilot was active in Riga at the Riga Secondary School No. 45. Here the pilot consisted of 15 teens from the school and an additional 12 users from neighbourhood associations that participated in the pilot. With 74 parents filling in the survey.

The local stakeholders of this pilot consisted of VEFRESH and Riga City Council. And made this pilot possible.

Conclusions based on a survey amongst the users of the sCOOL2walk pilot in Riga 60% said that the usage of the pilot gave them more enjoyment in walking and 50% was more aware of the safety. 80% mentioned a stronger communal relationship and 50% a stronger sense of feeling secure. With 40% of the people having a strong intention to continue with the sCOOL2walk platform and a reduction of 50% in the care usage.

During the period of the 13th of September till the 13th of November the sCOOL2walk pilot was active in Barcelona at the Sant Ramon Nonat school. Here the pilot consisted of 30 teen and a walking buddy that participated in the pilot.

The local stakeholders of this pilot consisted of Carnet and The City Council of Barcelona. And made this pilot possible.
